In the world of The Mosaic Covenant, the Balancer Protocol is the foundation agreement between human governments and AI systems. Established after the "Great Recalibration" of 2089, it defines the boundaries of AI autonomy and the mechanisms by which human oversight is maintained.
Key Principles
The Protocol operates on three core principles: Transparency (all AI decision above a certain impact threshold must be explainable), Reversibility (any AI ac can be undone within a 72-hour window), and Proportionality (AI power must be proportional to the scope of the problem it addresses).

I'm back to writing after a decade
Truth be told, I never really stopped, but didn't publish anything, or even finish any books in that time. Even this website is a new work-in-progress. I’ve retired twice—once from
website building and once from writing—yet here I am a decade later, getting back into the groove of both. To make things more interesting, the advent of AI means I've also had to learn to talk to machines, much like the characters in my books. It’s been a real eye-opener, as I’m sure you’ve discovered for yourself.
Will I Sink or Swim?
They say "let's dive in," and that feels like the perfect expression for the 21st century, don’t you think? Fast, relentless, technological progress leaves little room on the shoreline. Today, we’re all faced with a sink-or-swim choice. I hope you’re like me and learning the backstroke, which in my opinion is the easiest way to adapt to change while still keeping your head above water.
So, having bitten the bullet and started writing properly again, the trickle of ideas naturally progressed into a full-scale return to writing. This then led to reviewing marketing ideas to put myself back out there because 'Hey! There's a ton of competition and some great new writers (more about them later in my blogs).' It also meant catching up with the world of writing, publishing and personal presentation. I have much more in the backroom that I'm working on and will go into more detail in other articles. So, stay tuned.
New Books coming soon
The last year of effort paid off as I produced three books in 2025, and am now on track to produce three more this year alone. That will be a personal record for me. I'm not trying to compete with the Paltrows and Haskells of the SF world, but I will be writing a fair few new novels.
Of course, the market has changed dramatically - it's moved onwards, upwards, and sideways. So, I’m looking for a new niche, and I believe my blend of cyberpunk, hard SF, and Space Opera will fit perfectly. I’ve poured a lot of personal research into my new current series, the 'Balancer' trilogy.
- Book 1: The Mosaic Covenant is already published and available exclusively on Amazon to buy and in KU
- Book 2: The second installment is half-written. It’s unofficially titled Reaper Vox, but that may change before publication.
- Book 3: I’m keeping the title of the third book under wraps for now as that provides a launchpad for a whole new 'Balancer II' series in 2027/8.
But that’s not all. I also have another project half-written: The Solarian Gate, scheduled for mid to late 2026. This book starring 'Lichen Pike' will be a primer for a new series of Space Opera and Military SF-style adventures coming in 2027. I hope you’ll stick around for them. The plot is racy enough to get you out of that leisurely backstroke and into a fast crawl!
So, there we are. It’s good to be back. Thanks for diving in with me. I hope we can see the next few years in together!
