As large language models grow more capable, we're approaching the very scena I wrote about in The Mosaic Covenant — a world where AI systems must balance the own power against human interests.
The question isn't whether this will happen, but whether we'll have Balancers In my novel, the Balancers are neither purely human nor purely machine — they ex in that uncomfortable space between, making decisions that neither side fully t
"The real danger isn't AI becoming too powerful. It's AI becoming powerful enoug to need governance, but not wise enough to govern itself." — The Mosaic Covenant
What fascinates me about the current AI landscape is how closely it mirrors early chapters of The Mosaic Covenant. We're building systems that can reason, create, and persuade — but we haven't yet figured out who watches the watchers.

Once the war was over, manufacturing began only after the Neon Accord was signed between humans and AI. By then technology had moved in a different direction, partially to make it difficult for AI to take control, and partly to develop a new path, one that conquered Space. The AI were relegated to partnership instead of overlord and all parties were represented equally. It became known as the Mosaic Covenant and through its inception, AI and humans acquired a better, more equal playing field.
The Synth was born considered Human, simply because it was 90% biological, although designed differently. Less moving parts, less likely to breakdown, more efficient, stronger, faster and capable of keeping up with AIs, in mental agility, if not capacity. Bridging the gap between the species (AI regard themselves as such) the Synth kept the AIs in check while protecting the interests of humans, and corporations throughout the Solar system.
The 'Balancers' became the intelligence, investigation and enforcement arm of the Covenant and were enhanced further to provide an essential edge against the new society that had sprung up with AI, Human and Synth communities. Because Megacorps had evolved into a major competitor for resources and dominated the marketplace, humanity suffered and AI began to exert greater control over sections of business, the Balancers became known for controlling AI and Megacorps, keeping the Covenant in power as the major, dominant force.
The Covenant however, were prone to nepotism, self -serving and controlling natures dominated. Despite the limiting of time serving on committees, the Synths and Humans involved in the Covenants running clung to their power by changing their rules along the way, as it suited. They became a problem for everyone and this created unrest on Earth in the Gray Zones which grew strong with each passing year. the Belt, equally developing a society of its own and Mars, initially referred to as the Frontier, became a full colony and sought independence from Earth, particularly the Covenant. Some elements (Mars Consortium) openly fought the system becoming Gray Zones of their own and manipulating politics to their own end.
Kaelie Vox, an original Synth and also from the initial influx of Balancers, was involved heavily in managing the growing dissatisfaction between all of the parties, including Synths who were themselves corrupted by promises of power and financial reward, until finally the Schisms became visible.
Enter 'Kaelie Vox, Ambassador', and later 'Reaper Vox' where our mutual history becomes relevant and where Vox becomes instrumental in the future of all.
