The question 'About The Author' is something all the sites ask, and I always wonder what it is you might actually want to know.

If you clicked the link it was probably curiosity as I can't imagine anyone wanting a seriously researched response (let me know in the comments if I'm wrong on that point).

So, here's my potted precis of writing as Tobias Roote.

It began in 2012, when I gave up building websites for a living. I'd moved to Greece and needed online 'nomad' work, and web design is difficult when doing it from an isolated country and your customers want a sit down 'chat' to talk over things. So, I wrote a book called 'The Business Nomad' (but never published it). That got me into another book I did publish (and sold a ton off, but we won't go into that). By 2013 I was beginning to get the hang of it, and January 2014 I published 'The Pattern Ship' which was an instant bestseller, it was easier back then. The rest, as they say, is history.

After that was published we moved back to England, then on to Spain, and finally in 2015, we came back to Greece where we have lived now for over ten years.

Writing isn't my main workload, I'm actually retired. The brain doesn't give up at sixty-five, so I still find myself writing and building websites. Add to that the fact I also have a five-and-a-half acre olive grove on a south-facing hillside from which we get a superior crop of olives (our last big harvest netted four hundred litres of quality product).

But, to get back to writing, I find I have little to say - I write, sometimes it ends up as a book. Often it sits on my computer while I pick olives, or strim brush. Then there's my new website which requires a lot of creativity. There's a lot happening, and it takes all the hours in a day.

I get asked 'are the pictures of you really you?' and the answer is yes, but the AI puts them into backgrounds and in doing so slightly modifies my image. It's always about 98%, but that little 2% of difference always makes my wife laugh, (I think she's quietly thinking of the DNA difference between monkeys and humans).
